Willsie’s Weekly Word

Week 2 , 2017

First I just wanted to thank everyone who sent messages and comment about last week’s post. I had a lot of great feedback. So I am excited to keep this going……. here we go.

I was struggling all day trying to decide what to write about tonight. I was jotting down words and phrases, I looked up some of my favorite quotes, but nothing was jumping out at me. Well, that was until my wife, son and I had an epic Nerf Gun battle in our living room. I kept taking a moment to look at my wife and son’s faces as we ran around. I wished I had been able to photograph the happy expressions…… but to be honest, I was pinned down in a corner with Nerf bullets whipping by, so I couldn’t get to a camera.

SO “Happiness” is going to be our word for the week.

Happiness

Here is what Wikipedia says….

Happiness is a mental or emotional state of well-being defined by positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy. Happy mental states may also reflect judgements by a person about their overall well-being.

But I am sure everyone knows exactly what the word means, or at least knows what it feels like.

Today during the epic Nerf gun battle,  I could hear our son Austin giggling the whole time, laughing hysterically at daddy getting shot in the bum by mommy, and shrieking with joy every time he was attacked. Yes, this was an incredibly happy moment in our day.

Happiness can be caused by many, many things. When I look back at my day today to count the things that made me happy, the list is long. Now, happiness can come on different levels and at any time. Let’s take a look at just some of the things that made me happy today.

As some of you know, I have been trying to lose weight and get back into shape. This morning I jumped on the scales to find out I had lost the 4 or 5 lbs I put on over the Christmas holidays ( thanks Santa). The scale said 187.7 lbs…….. HAPPY DANCE.

I went to the gym and was struggling a bit trying to get in a good work out. I watched a newer member ( or at least one that I hadn’t seen before) kicking butt on the elliptical machine. It wasn’t the fact that she was working hard, it was the fact that she was mouthing the words of a song that was she was listening to on her headphones. Now when I say mouthing, I actually mean doing the best damn air band solo in history. I mean it was just like she was in front of 50,000 screaming fans. I so wanted to go up to her and ask what song she was listening too, but after watching her, I was immediately in a different mood and went on to have an amazing work out.

Back at home, Austin had been asking to build a fort in the living room with some old photography backdrops I had given him to play with. Watching him bounce around with excitement as we planned out how and where to build the fort made me feel like a kid again……. well except I had just had a killer work out and could barely lift my arms over my head. 🙂

The fort was built in no time at all and lunch was being served.

After lunch Austin was given 15 minutes on the iPad to play some games. Next thing I know all three of us are huddled under the fort playing on the iPad. Yes, happiness comes in all shapes and sizes. 🙂

Next was the epic Nerf Gun battle…… you already know about that.

After that I had to go into the office to do a bit of work for a client and to plan out my session for tomorrow. I was chatting with my client who I am photographing in the studio tomorrow about ideas and what not, and I felt myself getting excited for work, yes you read that right, EXCITED FOR WORK. Most days I absolutely love my job and tomorrow is going to be one of those days.

Sunday night at the Wills house is usually family movie night with dinner in front of the TV.  We had decided to watch “Finding Nemo”. When I put the dvd in I heard the familiar music from “The Wonderful World of Disney” and it brought back memories of being a kid and watching Disney with my family. Yes, happiness can come at you from all things. Sometimes they are little, sometimes they are memories, sometimes they are a child laughing, sometimes it by getting shot in the ass by a Nerf gun.

Have a very happy week everyone.

John
