Fall Family Portraits

We are having so much fun this Fall photographing families and kids in the beautiful outdoors! The weather has been spectacular, and last Sunday night was no exception. On this perfect weekend evening I met the McCarthy Family out at their picturesque family farm north of Guelph. We went for a lovely walk around the property, stopping every so often to create some photo memories. Below are just a couple of the images this amazing family purchased. I could have photographed them all night long on this incredible property. Their beautiful custom print has been ordered and is going to hang above their fireplace so they can see it everyday.

Top Children’s Photographer in Guelph

Creating custom one of a kind, kick ass, special, personalize kids portraits is what I LOVE to do.

This is a photo of my 6 yr old son Austin. Many of you have seen lots of different photos of him over the years but these unique portraits are what I love doing the most with him.

Austin is just wearing a Halloween costume in the studio. The other stuff I have created for his portrait.

Austin wanted to have “big muscles like superman” so that is what he got. I wanted a space or universe feel to the photo so I added stars and a planet in the background as well. I added more red cape to the finished image as well to make it look larger than it was.

When I showed Austin the finished image…. his eyes lit up and said “very cool dad….. I have muscles”

We are starting to do a lot of these custom portraits….. I am working on a “Twilight” image right now for a client with a 9 year old daughter and it is going to be EPIC.

Cutest Kid Contest Guelph

It is a busy time of year here at the studio. Lots of people are taking advantage of the Fall Family Portrait Special and Cutest Kid Contest. We wanted to share this little cutie pie today. This is 8 month old Lila and she totally kicked butt! She gave me so many amazing expressions during her session that mom and dad had a hard time narrowing their images down. I was told at the beginning of the session that she may take a bit shy and will definitely not “go to a stranger”.  Well, apparently Lila likes being a supermodel. At the end of the session I decided to put my arms out to see if she would come to me…… VICTORY. Lila let me hold her while we were packing up and it was the highlight of my night!

Cutest Kid Contestant “Dylan”

We are starting to get caught up on all the editing we have had lately. So we will be also catching up on some blog posts as well. So lets start with one of our “Cutest Kids Contest” entrants.

This is 8 year old Dylan. I have had the great pleasure in photographing this amazing young man a couple times now and it is fun to watch him grow up. Dylan was a superstar on his session and also gave me one of the strongest hugs I have ever had at the end of it…… I am still going to massage therapy to get my neck straightened out from it.

Clara

Meet 8 month old Clara I have had the amazing privilege of photographing Clara’s mommy and daddy’s engagement session, their beautiful wedding and their first family photos. So it was very special when they called me to photograph Clara as an 8 month old in our “Cutest Kid Contest.”

I missed last week’s Memories Monday post, as I was in Toronto at the Professional Photographers of Canada – Ontario Awards Gala and Convention. (There will be a post on that shortly.)

But we are back today with an image of my son, Austin, when he was only four months old. As you can see, he was a pretty happy baby! He is now four going on five, and still just as happy (most of the time). When looking back at old images I can’t help but smile, and also  hold the disbelief of how much he has grown and changed over the last couple of years. I looked back and found a post I made when Austin was first born. If you want to take a few minutes and have a look, here it is.

Now, I promise not every Memories Monday will be about Austin….. but being a proud father, it is hard not making every post about my family.

One of my favorite child portraits I have ever taken.  I am so glad Edwards parents ordered a big beautiful museum grade canvas print for their home. This is going to look spectacular in their living room. We here at John Wills Photography want all our clients to hang photos of their family and kids on their walls. Photos are better printed by professionals and not kept on a phone or computer. A photo like this, when hung on the wall, is enjoyed and viewed every day. Not just when you turn your computer on and look in your “pictures” folder. I can’t wait to see this photo on Cam and Jessica’s wall.

Starting today I am going to try and do some blog posts that look back at my family and personal life. These posts will give you a glimps of things that go on in my life on a day to day basis. This is an image from a fall family portrait shoot I did in 2013. It is one of my favorite images from this session as I feel it shows the true personality of my son.
