Tristian Coveyduck

“Sup. I’m Tristian Coveyduck.  I am an 18 year old with a love for heavy metal and 90’s rock. Growing up as the middle child I had to find ways to entertain myself and as I got older that meant getting into a little trouble from time to time. I’ve been playing guitar for 5 years always looking for something new to play and ways to play faster and harder. Some of my favorite things to pass time are play guitar and explore around abandon houses. If you ask anyone who knows me about who I am any of them would say I’m all about the combat boots, tattoos, piercings, concert shirts, loud music, and my attitude.”   – Tristian

“My name is Amanda and I am 21 years old. I was told to write something about myself but I am struggling with it because there is no one thing that defines who I am. There is no one quality or experience to define who I am. I am a complex, diverse person with high ambition for my goals in life. I might not know where I will end up, but I know what I want and I am willing to embrace every failure I have. Through failures I have become the person I am today. I did the next top model contest to kick off this new chapter in my life. As a recent college graduate and a start in a new career my life has changed dramatically over a short period time. I wanted to celebrate making it through this change by doing something special. And what is more special than getting dolled up and feeling invincible like you do at a photoshoot when it is all about you. Often we all forget sometimes that it is okay to be selfish and do something for yourself. We get caught up in what’s happening tomorrow or what’s happening 2-5 years from now and forget that we need to live each day as it comes.” –  Amanda

Ashley Geremia

First I wanted to share what Ashley’s Mom, Shelly had to say about her daughters shoot in the Guelph and Area 🙂

“I really had a tough time deciding if I wanted to enter my daughter Ashley into this contest. The word “model” can be scary and we automatically think of those super thin, super tall, famous models that walk the runways. We all have a perception, thanks to society, of what a “model” should look like and I did not want my 16 year old daughter to think that she had to look a certain way in order to participate in this contest. I voiced my concerns to John and right away he put my mind at rest. He explained this is not what this contest is about, that it is about celebrating each and every contestant and making everyone feel special regardless of age, shape and size. We had a blast during our photo session. Our location was absolutely incredible and the time flew by. I was completely impressed by John’s attitude and professionalism and how he was able to put Ashley at ease in front of the camera. I can totally see why he was voted as 2014’s Photographer of the Year. His passion shows in his work and you can tell that he absolutely loves what he does! Thank you John for this incredible opportunity…I am thrilled that Ashley was able to participate in this contest. Nothing made this Mom happier than seeing her daughter shine and her confidence grow.” – Shelly Gow Geremia

and now Ashley 🙂

“My name is Ashley, I’m 16 years old and will be starting grade 11 in September. I play guitar, ukulele, and I sing. Music is my way of escaping reality and traveling to my own word. It has helped me through my toughest times, and brought me strength when I thought I had none. I am a huge fan of literature, including reading and writing it; writing is yet another way of escaping reality. My ultimate passion in life is science, and I plan to grow up and become a scientist. I play rugby and go to the gym a lot, but that part of my life had to be put on hold after acquiring a stage 3 concussion in April. Although I am not fully recovered, the past few months have made me stronger than ever, and I am forever grateful for that. I cannot play rugby again due to all of the major risk factors, but I have made peace with that situation and can continue physical activity in other ways! I enjoyed being in front of the camera, and cannot thank John enough for the absolutely amazing experience!” – Ashley

Alicia Skelding

“Well, I am supposed to write a paragraph about myself explaining who I am and why I decided to enter this contest. Where do I start? A few weeks ago I made the decision to try a boudoir photo shoot. I have had an interest in photography as I find it, dance and music to be the most expressive art forms in that a lot can be conveyed in a single lyric, move or photograph.

My name is Alicia. I am thirty years old, and I am a veterinarian. My spare time and particularly time to myself is incredibly limited. The boudoir shoot was something I had an interest in doing for a very long time, and it felt really great to do it just for myself. It was at that time that John mentioned to me this contest. I have a passion (and weakness) for fashion, as you can see by the dresses. This contest sounded like a great opportunity to have some fun with photography. It has never really been about winning, but more so about the experience and the final product. I have worked hard all my life to achieve the professional career that I have always wanted. In all this hard work not a lot of time has been taken for myself. As a veterinarian our obligation to our clients and family members can be so rewarding and so trying all at the same time. It is easy to forget that we need to take time to focus on ourselves. These photo shoots have given me the chance to really be myself and focus on my own interests outside of my career.” – Alicia Skelding

As you can see we are getting some amazing people entering this fun contest. Remember this contest is for EVERYONE, all shapes, sizes, ages, and gender. So what are you waiting for? Give us a call and book a crazy fun modelling session with 2014 Ontario Portrait Photographer of the Year.

Ferrin Grant

“My guitar is my baby, she’s my best friend at times. She gets me through everything good or bad. Music has captivated me from a young age and still holds me awestruck today, genre doesn’t matter I like to listen to a wide variety from Spanish rap to country, music is my passion. My name is Ferrin Grant I am 16 and attend high school in Elmira. I’ve never really been into sports or anything requiring coordination since I’m more than clumsy. Reading, running, music and songwriting now that’s me, that’s how I escape and become myself. I tried my hand at photography but never got the hang of it, it wasn’t until recently I discovered I really like being in front of the camera, thanks a million John!”  – Ferrin Grant

What an amazing way to get back from a two week vacation with my family. Ferrin, her lovely mom Tami and I, had a blast on Sunday night shooting this lovely young lady’s Next Top Model images. This was my second photo shoot with Ferrin and she totally nailed it! After spending a couple of hours with Ferrin on location, I felt that the world is in great hands in the coming years with amazing young adults like her running our country.

This Model Contest is not about “winning” or being “a model”, it is about having some fun and experiencing what it is like to be on a professional photo shoot.  We have two categories: one for 16- 29 year olds, and the second for people 30 years of age and older. So if you, or anyone you know, would like to see and feel what it is like to be on a professional photo shoot, give us a shout to book your Next Top Model Session. Kim Freeman (my wife)

Last night I had the incredible pleasure of photographing my amazing wife, Kim. It has been far too long since Kim and I went on a photo shoot together, and I wanted to give her the same experience I give my clients (well, except for taking her out for a nice dinner first). I was actually a bit nervous on this shoot, something that I never am when it comes to photography. I helped Kim, like I do all my clients, in prepping for her session and also helped her in choosing what images best represented her. Below are the four she chose….. just for the record, Kim cannot officially enter this contest, but I wanted to give her the full experience.

“As a full-time teacher, mother and partner, I don’t always have a lot of time to spend on myself. My two hours of shooting with John, and the time I took out of my day to prepare, was a great reminder of how to put myself first.  As busy women we don’t always remember that. During the shoot John coached me with the poses, made me feel relaxed in front of the camera, and I truly enjoyed every minute. Even if doing a photo shoot like this seems outside your comfort zone, I would say push through and do it. I don’t like being the spotlight, and definitely don’t consider myself a model, and I loved it!”  _ Kim Freeman

If you are interested in giving this contest a try, we have two different divisions: 16- 29 and 30+.

Crys Way-White

“I’m Crys, I’m 32 years old. I have an amazing husband and two step sons I’ve been a hairstylist for 15 years and I am a business owner. At one time, I was the one hiding behind the camera. Now: I love being in front of it. I used to have body issues and low self esteem. It wasn’t until my late 20s that I learned to love me. I learned to love my flaws and embrace them. As I learned to love myself first, I could see others loved me for who I was and not who I wished I was. John, knows how to capture my beauty on the outside to match the beauty on the inside.”

– Crys Way-White

POWERFUL words Crys 🙂

“My name is Ashley and I am a 21 year old mom of a beautiful 3 year old boy. I am currently in school for nursing as well as working full time. My life is extremely busy and finding balance can always be hard. But when I do get free time I love to spend it working out or on fashion which are two of my passions. I love clothes and being girly, but I also love to run as well as lift weights. I am not afraid to get dirty, but I clean up nice :)”

What is a Model?

The million dollar question. What is a Model?

Well, if you were to look in the press and on TV, one might have a very narrow view or thought about what a model is. So, what does the dictionary say?

Model: a person or thing considered as a standard of excellence to be imitated

We couldn’t agree more! The media wants us to believe that models are only a small group of people and we should strive to be like them. The definition, however, states “a standard of excellence”, and excellence can be what you believe it to be. Models are confident people of all ages, races, genders, shapes and sizes. Models are pregnant, curvy, tall, small and everything in between. Models are teens and adults of any age…every age is the right age! There is no world-wide standard of what excellence means, and we believe that everyone is what our new standard of excellence should be.

This year we are launching JDW’s Next Top Model. To us, that means that we are looking for people of excellence. The judges will not be judging based on what the stereotypical perception of a model is, but on how our contestants show their personalities and true selves in front of the camera. We are looking for all of you! Yes you, because you are who we believe the definition of model should include. Real people who love themselves, their bodies and their lives.

If this describes you – confident, full of life, wanting to try new things and to celebrate yourself for who you are – we would love to have you enter our contest.

Still not sure? Check out this video then

For more contest details click here.

Let’s redefine beauty and show the world what excellence really is.

P.S. I decided to ask the question “What does the word “Model” mean to you?” on my Facebook page here are some of the responses.

– “Not only physical looks but inner beauty radiating through for the world to love, no matter if you are a size 2 or 20. Beauty is beauty regardless of the package as long as its the WHOLE package!”

– “Someone who has the bravery to portray their inner beauty on the outside. Confident, strong, fearless and most importantly, comfortable with who they are. They comes in all shapes and sizes and they are an examole of all the different types of beautiful people are.”

– “A model is a beautiful person on the inside and out. A person you can look up to, confide in and sets an example for others.”

– “Someone who has a glow and confidence about them. And they truly enjoy being in the spot light. Body Size and looks are not all that matters”

– “the fierceness to strut your stuff and love who you are, even if not a ‘supermodel’!”

These are just a few of the amazing comments we got when asking the question “What does the word “Model” mean to you?”
