Well John did it again…… For the third time John Wills MPA has won the coveted “2021 Ontario Portrait Photographer of the Year” (PPOTY). Below are the 4 images John entered in the Ontario Provincial Salon.

Photographers vying for the top award must enter 4 images in different Portrait categories and must receive a score of ” Accepted” or higher to qualify.

November 12, 2021 – Woodstock, Ontario

At the Annual Awards Presentation of the Professional Photographers of Canada – Ontario (PPOC-ON), held online, John Wills MPA LPPO , a professional photographer from Guelph, ON, had 4 images accepted and exhibited in the Provincial Image Salon.

John was awarded a Best in Class in the following genres:

Child Portrait “Enchanted Reflection”

Portrait Portrait “How U Doin?”

Fashion Portrait “Breaking Through Barriers”

Judge’s Choice Award for his Image “How U Doin?”

John was also awarded the coveted Portrait Photographer of the Year, a third time he has won this award.

PPOC-ON is a voluntary organization and along with six other constituent member associations, was a founding member and is affiliated with the national body – the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC).

Each member has made a full-time commitment to the profession. Simply by being a member, they have demonstrated their desire to remain on the leading edge of professional image-making in today’s rapidly changing world. Through monthly meetings, provincial and national conventions and networking with both trade associates and their fellow professionals, our members are continually honing their craft to bring their clients the best that professional imaging has to offer.

The purpose and mandate of PPOC-ON is to provide an educational, business, and creative environment for professional photographers with the purpose of promoting the highest standard of personal, professional and creative excellence within the craft. The association will seek to safeguard and promote the interests of the membership and to promote and maintain a code of conduct and code of ethics to which its members are expected to comply. The Professional Photographers of Canada is committed to the excellence of technical knowledge, enhancing professional standards throughout the profession, and improving the quality of the profession for persons engaged in the vocation of photography by having its members adhere to the standards of the Association.

This year’s competition received professional entries from all over Ontario as well as other parts of Canada. Judging took place online by a selected panel of qualified Master Photographers.

Our studio is disinfected after EVERY client. We have spaced out our time slots to assure no one will run into another family. We are running an air purifier in our studio as well. We have taken every precaution possible to keep our clients safe and still get some beautiful photos. 

School is back in, albeit with a few changes! One thing that is missing from school this year is School Portraits. That’s where we come in!

• One parent gets to be present to make sure that the hair and clothing look perfect

Novelist Headshots

“I am so very lucky to have incredible people cross my path each and every day.  One of those people that crossed my path was John Wills. John and I arranged to have a photo shoot because I have a book that is being published, and I needed a professional head shot.

As an emerging writer and creative person, I am transitioning from private to professional.  In other words, I am starting to share who I am and what I do. Part of that includes a new web site and a book.  I needed headshots. A friend of mine suggested John and I am glad that she did. The whole experience with John was brilliant.  From the first phone call to the quick delivery of my photos. The whole experience was very relaxed and fun. I think that is what sticks with me the most.  Like many people, I do not feel that comfortable in front of the camera (why I am a writer, not an actress), and yet John made it cozy and welcoming. The whole process was a collaboration and discussion, not mechanical and directive.  Through his manner and personality, John was able to draw out and capture who I am in photos. Custom Portrait Studios 

Just finished a crazy cool custom portrait session with Kayley. The image below is just one of the basic ones I did for here today but I wanted to get one up fast to show everyone. I will be doing a more elaborate custom composite for this beautiful young lady in the next few days. Check out what Hayley and her mom had to say about their experience with our studio and make sure you keep checking back in to see what magical image I create for their wall portrait. 

“My daughter has loved Alice in Wonderland since she was a child. She is now a teenager with a very dramatic flare, and asked for an opportunity to re-enact her favourite character in a photoshoot. Today her wish came true! John did an amazing custom Mad Hatter shoot with her! I cannot say enough good things about John. He is beyond great with our entire family, so friendly, welcoming, professional and respectful. He made our daughter feel so comfortable and relaxed! I actually left the shoot as she wanted to be one-on-one with him and my watching was making her nervous lol! When I returned John showed me a few of the unedited photo’s and they were absolutely incredible! I cannot wait to see what John comes up with for the background, special effects and edits. He has such a creative mind and talent for bringing still images to life. My daughter had the best time today and John helped create memories for her that will last a lifetime!
